Regarding Harvest Young Adults

Important News

I HAVE SOME BIG NEWS TO SHARE!

Over the past several months, Ericka and I have become convinced that God is calling us to Santa Barbara to re-plant a church. This leaves us feeling both excited and saddened. The two of us have belonged to Harvest Christian Fellowship for most of our lives so that makes this change pretty difficult. We love this church, and have some really deep ties with many amazing people here. But God has opened a door for ministry, and filled our hearts with vision and passion to reach the city of Santa Barbara with the gospel and love of Christ. For that, we are thrilled! In the coming weeks, I will be getting into the details of this new work, but for now I want to address the impact this has on the Well ministry and the vision for young adults at Harvest.

THE FUTURE FOR HARVEST’S YOUNG ADULTS

For the past four years, we’ve had the amazing privilege of leading the Well where we’ve formed some wonderful friendships and ministry partnerships. It’s been a great joy seeing God reach and grow people through the gospel. For some time now, Harvest has been considering how we might minister to the young adults in our church and community with even greater effectiveness. Pastor Jonathan Laurie is currently leading our Sunday Night service and he has a heart for the young adults in our church. He is a loving shepherd and gifted leader. In light of this, we are moving our young adults from Friday nights over to Sunday nights under Jonathan’s leadership and care. Although this is a big change, it doesn’t mean everything is changing.

The Well’s current small groups will continue meeting throughout the week. We hope to see young adults continue to find meaningful relationships, accountability, and opportunities to serve the community through these groups. Also, the ministry that the Well is doing on our local college campuses at RCC, UCR, CSUSB, and CBU will continue to operate as we actively try to engage our schools with the good news of Jesus. Finally, special events, and most likely annual retreats for young adults will continue going forward. It is our hope that everyone who has made Friday nights a part of their routine will now make Sunday nights their new home.

Change is never easy, but as Christians we believe that behind every twist and turn in our lives is the stable and guiding hand of a loving Father. In this we put our trust.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28.

If you are a part of this community, you may have questions about this change. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email at thewell@harvest.org and we’ll be sure to get back to you.

Please keep my family and me in your prayers through all of these changes. And please keep Harvest in your prayers as well. In Christ, we believe that our best days lie ahead!
