Why are you in College?
Is it because you have nothing better to do? Or is it because you’re looking for a good time? Hopefully it is because you are looking to advance your education and qualify for the career you want. Education is a great thing! Arguably the most valuable and priceless gift one can acquire! But like everything else, this college season will end, and another will begin. But throughout all the many seasons in our lives, from career to family to retirement there is one common thread. One primary goal and purpose. That is to magnify Jesus.
So let me ask you again, why are you in College?
Here’s a few reasons why The Well Christian Clubs are currently occupying the surrounding college campuses:
The University is our mission field.
Some Christians are sent to Africa 1,000s of miles away to minister the gospel. And some Christians are sent to local Universities 10 miles down the road. It doesn’t matter where you are, people still need to hear about Jesus. The Well Christian Club is intentional on not creating a Christian bubble where the pale scarred Christians hide from the outside world, but rather we equip the club members to get out on campus to share and show the love of Christ. We do this through outreach events, serving the students and faculty, and through good old fashion community and fellowship. Our monthly format consists of:
One week designated forFellowship and community. Which involves food, coffee, games on the lawn, andmeeting new people.
One week of going through a helpful resource and discussing it amongst the group for encouragement and spiritual growth.
One week of outreach, which can consist of handing out free Scantrons during mid-terms or finals, Worship nights, open forums, and free food or coffee.
One week of bible study. Studying God’s word is a must! But we make sure that our club members are getting healthy bible study at their church, where as the Well Christian Club is not a substitute for the local church but a supplement and missional arm of the church.
The University is ripe.
Our culture encourages its youth to question everything, and as a result it has spawned a breed of insecure, purposeless human beings who have been released unto secular campuses with a buffet style belief system. Students standing in line and picking what they want to believe and what they don’t want to believe. They need the truth! And when we join together in the common cause of Christ, we can take ground for the kingdom. Queen Ester was given the opportunity to save her people when they were in danger of extermination. And she took the opportunity, and God was glorified through her willingness to be used in bringing salvation to her people. But before she made the decision to act, her uncle Mordecai said this to her, “… If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will come from another, but you will perish… And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14). Will God work even when you decide not to be the means in which He works? Absolutely! But have you considered the consequences of not fulfilling the great commission? How glorious it would be if we made it our mission to make a difference on our campus for Jesus. I believe you have been placed in college for such a time as this, so come out and be a part of the Well Christian Club on your campus.
Every season of life is a time in which we are given ample opportunity to glorify our King. C.T. Studd wrote “Only one life,’ twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.” Well said Studd, but let me put a little twist on it for the sake of driving home the point, “Only one season in college,’ twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.” And that my friends is the reality of your college experience.
